RTI National Convention at Goa Dec 11-12th

The Media Information and Communication Centre of India (MICCI), the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES-India) and The nternational Centre, Goa (ICG) will co-organise the 1st National Convention on "Right to Information: The Road Ahead" on 12th & 13th December 2008 at The International Centre, Goa – Dona Paula. Ms. Aruna Roy, a recipient of Magsaysay award - valued as the Asian Nobel prize - for community leadership and international understanding will deliver the keynote address to the Convention to be inaugurated by Shri Pratapsingh Rane, President – ICG and Speaker – Goa Legislative Assembly.

Chief Information Commissioner Shri A Venkatratnam and Shri. Nikhil Dey will address at the Valedictory Session of the Convention. Nikhil Dey now works with the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS) and the National Campaign for Peoples Right to Information (NCPRI). He has been working with the MKSS since its inception in 1990, along with Shankar Singh and Aruna Roy.

The participants will include about 20 RTI activists from different states of the Indian Union who will present papers from each state on Major Challenges Facing RTI; Media's Role in Implementing the RTI Act; Need for RTI education; and RTI & Role of NGOs. Each session of presentation will be followed by discussion. MICCI has organised series of seminars on RTI in different parts of India and this Convention will bring together the participants of these seminars.
