The Goa State Information Commission has slapped a fine of Rs 1000 on Mr M Porob, the deemed Public Information Officer when he was working in the Goa Medical College as the director of administration. Mr Porob invoked the wrath of the Commission for his long delay in furnishing information under the Right to Information Act to Mr Deepak Naik of Dandos wado, Mandrem. But Mr Porob escaped with a 'nominal penalty' of Rs 1000. The Commission had issued him a show cause notice in December 2007 directing him to explain why a penalty of Rs 250 per day from April 25, 2007 should not be imposed on him till the information is given to the appellant as directed by the Commission. The information was finally given on January 4, 2008. The delay was 251 days and the penalty worked out to Rs 62,750 restricted to the maximum of Rs 25,000.
