Soil Conservation department (agricultural department) of Similiguda block of Koraput district of Orissa has government vehicles lying unused and in abject condition in the garage. The water-pulling pump is also absent. When we inquired about it the office staffs said that it was in the storeroom. But when I asked to see it they refused. That means that, either it is not there or it has been stolen. The fences of the office are unsafe, for the department. When I, as the Citizen Journalist of Merinews, asked for the information related to March 4, 2008, to the officer in charge and the clerk, they refused me and instead, offered me money for not to disclose it. I went again, with the RTI (Right to Information) form. But still they refused. This time they threatened me and slashed me and till now they have refused to accept the RTI. The accountant of the department was not present.
