Action Group for Right To Information is going to stage a day long DHARNA in front of U.P. Vidhan Bhawan on Tuesday September 16, 2008 , starting from 9.30. a.m. with the following demands:

1. The Government should ensure that PIO's should provide the information within 30 days to the applicant,
2. PIO's who fial to comply such provision should be penalised as per provisions of the Act.
The commission should change its attitude towards these erring PIO's.
3. Such errant PIO's should not be allowed to Come to the Commission on Government Expenditure i.e. they should not be given TA & DA rather they should attend hearing of the Commission on their own
expenses. Such a move by the Govt. will on one hand reduce the
wastage of Govt. Expenditure as well as on other hand make the PIO
more active and supportive.
4.The Commission should finally dispose off the Appeals/Complaints within 60 days. Maximum not more than 3 dates be fixed in any case.
5.The Commission should get its daily proceedings signed by the apllicant and respondent both.
6. The harrasment of citizens by some organisations from where the applicant has demanded information be immediately stopped. This is so that it has come in the notice of Action Group that some organisations have adopted such tactics.

Your Cooperation is solicited by attending the DHARNA Site.
