The home department headed by chief minister Mr Naveen Patnaik appears to have landed itself in a soup with the State Information Commission directing it to furnish the Justice PK Tripathy commission report to the applicant by 9 March and also show cause why a penalty of Rs 250 per day should not be imposed for the delay caused thus far. The matter has turned interesting with the state home department initially expressing its reluctance to give the report, rejecting the application of Mr Biswapriya Kanungo and then saying it will move the High Court challenging the order of the Information Commission. Five persons, including a woman, were killed in police firing in Sorono in May 1999. The then government had ordered a judicial probe and Mr Justice PK Tripathy had inquired into the incident. He submitted his report to the government in 2005. Since then, the government has been sitting over it, alleged Mr Kanungo. The government refused to give the report.
